No, they're not all going to be sad or angry.
From D.W.: It just felt like a good time to remind everyone that joy exists. Love is real. Peace is possible. We just have to be brave enough to go and get it.

Because some days, your only recourse is to dress your giant dog baby in your old T-shirts and eat some chocolate chips right out of the bag. I’m not here to tell you how to live your life, I’m just trying to spark some weird little moments of joy in the midst of my own.

Rain is falling, and it smells so fresh and clean outside. Small people are crashed out and excited to see their families and caregivers, tomorrow. Tall people are snarfing Taco Cabana in the kitchen, punchy and tanned and still ringing wet from the picnic rain out.
A rainbow appeared in the very middle of the playing fields, and we stood and watched it hang in the air, soaked to our skins, mouths hanging open at the wonder of the colors and the promise right in front of our eyes. Bidden or not, God shows up to say 'I am loving you.' in so many lively and lovely ways.
Creation is still happening, inside every breath we take, and inside every drop that falls. And that's something worth remembering, every single day. Sweet dreams, peeps.

Radical Militant
Today, I am resolved to be a militant. I will be militant about grace, love, peace, and joy. I have been radicalized. How about you? Are you down to change the world? Are you down to love the people, whoever they are, who are right in front of you, even if they are a bunch of b-holes? Because that's what militant grace is about. That's what being radicalized by love looks like. It is hard. It means an end to easy answers, to us/them conversations, it means having to having extended and difficult conversations about things we'd rather not explore or deal with. It means letting go of situational ethics and situational theology, and moving directly into the deep and profound work of radical reconciliation and peacemaking. And if we don't do this work, well...you can see exactly where not doing this work has gotten us. And I'm sick of this mess. Aren't you?
We will cry and see things that will break our hearts. But the world will also be changed, just a squinch, and maybe only for a red-hot minute. But we must do this thing, this crazy thing called loving our neighbor, even if they are unloveable, even if they don't love us, even if they hate our guts and livers.
Find a way. Be quick to love, especially when you don't want to, especially for the people you think don't deserve it. They may not deserve it, but that is the deep beauty of grace, love, and mercy. No one deserves any of those things--I know I have enough ugly on my insides to more than take care of my share of awfulness. But we will die miserable, cold, and alone with out grace, love and mercy--no no matter where we pray, how we love, or whether we have any actual power or not. But (and especially if you are are Jesus person) being deeply committed to and sharing grace, mercy, and love are the only things we can do that ever really make a difference in the world. It's our job to do this big work.
Find a way. Be quick to love. The world needs you.
Love,
Rachie
